“Staying Fit While Traveling: Workout Tips for the Road”

Maintaining your fitness routine while traveling doesn't have to be a challenge. With a little creativity and dedication, you can stay in shape no matter where your journey takes you. Here are 7 workout tips you can take with you for your next trip!

  1. Get Resistance Bands

Start by packing resistance bands – they're lightweight, versatile, and perfect for strength training in small spaces. Bodyweight exercises like push-ups, squats, and lunges are also excellent options that require no equipment at all.

2. Take Advantage of Your Surroundings

Make the most of your surroundings by incorporating outdoor activities into your itinerary. A brisk walk or jog is an excellent way to explore a new city while burning calories. Many hotels now offer fitness centers, so take advantage of these facilities when available. If your accommodation doesn't have a gym, consider using fitness apps or online workout videos for guided sessions in your room or outdoors!

3. Stay Hydrated and Eat a Balanced Diet

Don't forget the importance of staying hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet, even when faced with tempting local cuisines. We recommend packing healthy snacks like nuts, fruits, and protein bars to avoid relying on unhealthy convenience foods. Stay hydrated by carrying a reusable water bottle and aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day. By prioritizing your health and fitness while traveling, you'll not only feel better but also have more energy to fully enjoy your adventures.

4. Get Sweaty with Others!

Finding a local group class is a fun way to get a good quality sweat session! You will also get the chance to meet locals, discover new forms of exercise, and often visit parts of towns most tourists don’t.

5. Do High-Intensity, Low-Duration Workouts

To get and stay fit, more isn’t better. Harder and faster is better. The key is in your intensity.

In a 12-week long study, world-renowned exercise physiologist Dr. Martin Gibala found that subjects who did three 20-second intervals of high-intensity training enjoyed the same health benefits as those who did 45 minutes of medium intensity continuous exercise.

Yes, even short workouts can make a significant difference in maintaining your fitness level on the road as long as you UP the intensity of your workout.

6. Eat As Much as You Want, Just Not Whenever You Want

We’ve all heard a million times that diet is even more important than exercise.

That sucks for those of us who want to stay fit on the road. Eating is arguably the best part of traveling. To not gorge on all the local treats would rob us of a big part of the travel experience. Without it, we might as well travel in virtual reality. Luckily, we don’t need to compromise on what we eat to stay fit while traveling. We just need to compromise on when we eat. If we limit ourselves to eating twice a day and spend some days fasting, we can stay fit no matter what we eat. Consider adding intermitting fasting to help keep you in shape and feel sexy!

7. Relax

Exercise should relieve your stress, not increase it. So, if you’re feeling stressed and not at all in the mood for a workout, relax. Get a good night’s sleep, maybe do a bit of yoga or stretching, and don’t sweat it (literally) until the next day. With long-haul flights, never-ending bus rides, line-ups, and cultural hurdles, traveling can be stressful enough as it is.

And give yourself credit for all the walking you’ll do. Walking on its own may not get you as ripped as Brad Pitt in Fight Club, but it’s better than the endless hours of sitting you probably do back home.
